England Basketball

England Basketball wanted to ensure that it had the appropriate corporate governance, leadership and structural alignment at both Board and executive level, thus enabling the sport to optimise its potential in terms of both participation and talent development. Our approach was to interview - on a structured basis - the Chair, each member of the Board, the Chief Executive, key partners and stakeholders, including Sport England. We also reviewed in detail the Memorandum & Articles of Association, annual reports and accounts, Whole Sport Plans, Board papers and reports, internal policies and procedures, staffing structures, roles and responsibilities, job descriptions, Sport England/UK Sport governance reviews, and finally the Board's self-evaluation and skills audit. Our final report was presented to and accepted by the Board, who were very appreciative of the work we did, our practical but sensitive approach, and our honesty and candour. At the 2012 AGM, our recommendations led to radical restructuring and a new independent Board.

Badminton England

TrioPlus has been appointed by Badminton England on several occasions to undertake Corporate Governance work and provide reassurance at Board and senior management level. Working directly for the Chair and Chief Executive, TrioPlus undertook a detailed initial Corporate Governance study during 2007/08 that also included development work and training with the Board of Directors. TrioPlus has subsequently worked with Badminton England on the management of risk, the development of an active risk register, and business continuity and crisis management planning.

Institute of Groundsmanship

TrioPlus has been retained by the Institute of Groundsmanship (IOG) on a regular basis since 2006. Working alongside the Chief Executive, we initially undertook a complete review of the professional Institute: its purpose; corporate governance; strategic direction; business and operational planning; systems; future staffing; external partnerships. Our Report to the Board detailed the stark need for sweeping change, a challenge that IOG agreed to act upon.

TrioPlus was subsequently retained to write the IOG Strategy 2006-2012; to conduct the first industry research on the Economic Impact of Grounds Management; and on a voluntary basis David Carpenter has been an independent Director of IOG since 2010, assisting primarily with strategic direction.

Over six years IOG has re-energised itself, delivering on the agreed Strategy, making itself very relevant to industry issues, championing the role of the grounds management professional, totally re-writing and enhancing education and training.
